Need a complete deer fence kit?:

What Is A Deer Fence?

A deer fence is an actual physical barrier to keep deer in or out. It's usually 6ft tall for small areas, and 7 1/2 feet tall or taller for larger areas. It can consist of poly fence (short for polypropylene which is a type of plastic) or metal fence. Poly is great for deer because they don't chew. For other animals, our Bitterfence® anti chew additive acts as a chew deterrent.

What Is A Deer Fence Rodent Barrier?

What is it and do I need one? In general, if you care only about keeping deer out, customers choose poly deer fencing with a short rodent barrier bottom. A rodent barrier bottom is a smaller opening size (1x1 or 1/2x1/2 or 1/4x1/4) base at the bottom of larger opening size fence to keep out smaller animals. This rodent barrier bottom is overlapped 6 inches or more on the ground and pinned to the ground using ground stakes. This prevents small animals from pushing up and under the fence or digging down under for access (like rabbits).

Other Deer Fence Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need concrete for a deer fence?
No! Our patented EZ-Brace hardware, gates, driveway gates, posts, corner posts and fence framework use ground sleeves with a set screw. These ground sleeves are driven into the ground with a sledge hammer or gas powered driver. The tube then slides inside the sleeve and locks in with the set screw. Sleeves have a thick wall and add leverage to fence posts.
Does a deer fence need to be 10 feet high?
The average height of a deer fence is 7 1/2 feet. Over time the height of deer fencing has risen to 8ft and in some cases 10 feet. 10 feet isn't really necessary unless you have a specific extreme application - like raising multiple deer on a deer farm.
Does plastic deer fence work?
Plastic deer fence is effective for deer in higher strengths. Big box stores sell lightweight plastic fence, usually 3/4 opening size, it's inexpensive and not suitable for deer. As a general rule, if you can pull it apart by hand it's not good for deer. The least strong fence we carry is 650lbs of breaking strength per square foot and can't be broken by hand.
